Autism & ADHD Assessment
Assessments
Chantal offers Autism and ADHD assessments for adults (aged 18 years and above). She works from a neurodiversity affirming and trauma informed approach. The assessment process is done with warmth and with a focus on creating a safe space to explore your life story and neuro type together.
Option 1: Autism Assessment with comprehensive report:
An autism assessment includes a three hour long appointment. You will be given some online questionnaires to complete before your first appointment. During the appointment, we will go through questions together. These questions relate to your life story as well as chatting about experiences that are common for individuals who are autistic. There are some online questionnaires for your parent(s) to complete to help us understand what life was like for you as a young person.
Sometimes it can feel stressful going to an unfamiliar place or meeting someone new. So it might feel a bit anxiety provoking meeting with me to explore whether or not you may be autistic. For this reason, please feel comfortable bringing along things that may make the time together more comfortable. Some people bring along a favourite item to fiddle with, etc. We can make sure the room feels comfortable for you, some folks move the cushions around or prefer the lights to be dimmed. Some people prefer to position themselves on their seat so that they don’t face me during the appointment. Others prefer to play quiet pattern-based games on their phones while we talk.
After our 3 hour appointment, I take all the information from our appointment and the information from your online questionnaires and then put together a comprehensive report that will say whether or not you meet the diagnostic criteria for Autism, as well as recommendations for going forward.
My comprehensive report will be provided 4-6 weeks after our appointment, at which time we will have a one hour appointment to go over the report together and we can chat about the outcome and recommendations.
Option 2: ADHD Assessment with comprehensive report:
An ADHD assessment includes a three hour appointment. This assessment will provide a comprehensive report and formal diagnosis if applicable, however it will not provide access to ADHD-related medication. Clinical psychologists can provide a formal diagnosis of ADHD, however psychologists cannot prescribe medication. A psychiatrist who works with ADHD presentations will need to be consulted to explore suitability of stimulant medication. You will require a referral from your GP to see a psychiatrist.
A comprehensive report will be provided 4-6 weeks after the assessment.
Option 3. Autism and ADHD Assessment:
A combined assessment can be done for individuals who are exploring both Autism and ADHD. This combined assessment includes three appointments, two appointments of 1.5 hours each and a third appointment of 2 hours. You will be given some online questionnaire to complete before our first appointments.
A comprehensive report will be provided 4-6 weeks after the assessment which will provide detailed explanations of the assessments completed and the outcome.
